Lahore: The Government College University Lahore has started a self-assessment of all of its postgraduate programmes in order to identify any necessary policy changes to maintain the highest levels of quality.
Senior professors from GCU and other institutions were assembled in the Assessment Teams by Vice Chancellor Dr. Asghar Zaidi to review the implementation of the 31 standards of the self-assessment programme in accordance with Higher Education Commission (HEC) regulations.
Dr Asghar Zaidi on Wednesday visited the Botany Department along with the Assessment Team and examined the available laboratory equipment, departmental library resources and other research facilities offered to students, the faculty-to-student ratio, the quality of research and instruction, the training provided to support staff in previous years, curriculum design and improvement, and other resources available.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the main goal of this self-evaluation is to pinpoint opportunities for more growth by identifying flaws and shortfalls in each university department, develop a strategy for continual progress, and turn these weaknesses into strengths. “We also hope to serve as role models for other universities in good practise.”
According to him, assessment is a technical and methodical procedure that involves acquiring significant quantitative and qualitative data and information about educational programmes from numerous sources and assessing it.
Dr Zaidi further stated that in order to maintain objectivity, renowned academicians from other universities are also included in the self-assessment teams. He expressed his gratitude to the teachers and staff of the Botany Department and Quality Enhancement for their excellent cooperation with the assessment team.
