GCU Appoints First Female Head in 160-Year Legacy

Lahore: Government College University Lahore has reached a historic milestone with the appointment of its first female Professor as the head of the university in its 160-year history.
Dr Shazia Bashir, the university’s Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, has been selected as the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution.
The Punjab governor has bestowed upon her the additional responsibility of the post of Vice Chancellor for a period of four months or until the appointment of a regular Vice Chancellor Dr Shazia Bashir, an alumnus of Government College Lahore, holds a Master’s degree in Physics from the same institution, an MPhil from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, and a PhD from the Technical University, Vienna, Austria. She has been associated with GCU Lahore since 1996.
Throughout her academic journey, Dr Shazia Bashir has held various significant positions, including Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Physics and Institute of Physics, and Chairperson of the Department of Physics. Her contributions to research and development in the field are noteworthy, with over 150 research publications in reputable international journals to her credit.
The appointment of Dr Shazia Bashir has been warmly welcomed by the faculty, staff, and students of the university, marking a progressive step towards gender inclusivity and academic excellence.
