Galyat &Naran Receive First Snowfall of Season

Abbottabad: Galyat, includingNathiagali, Ayubia and Thandiyani, experienced the first snowfall on Monday and received more than four inches of snow, whilst Naran experienced more than two feet of snowfall during the previous 24 hours and it continued.

According to themeteorological department, more than two feet of snow have been recorded in Kaghan, while intermittent rain and snowfall continued on the mountains of Galyat, Thandyani, Siran, Naran, BattaKundi, and neighbouring areas like Shogran.

Heavy equipment is being used by the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) workers to clear snow from the Kaghan roadway at several locations along the Kaghan valley.

The Hazara division’s temperatures plummeted due to snowfall and intense rain that started last night, especially in the steep areas where it remained below zero.

The Galyat Development Authority (GDA) has also advised visitors and locals toavoid unnecessary travelbecause the road is slick from continual snowfall and rain, and to use iron chains during travel in Galyat while it is snowing.

The GDA staff and snow-clearing machinery are prepared to handle any emergency and plough roadways. While locals in Abbottabad flocked to places serving soap, fish, and other winter delicacies to enjoy the chilly weather, many tourists travelled to Galyat to view the snowfall.

Within the next 24 hours, the Met predicts rain at scattered places in the Hazara division as well as snowfall over the hills in Naran, Kaghan, and Gillyat.

The first snowfall of the winter also fell in the districts of Swat, Dir Upper and Khyber, significantly lowering the temperature and covering the steep regions with white snow.

According to the Met Office, the Kukikhel and Maidan regions of the Tirah area of the Khyber district are still experiencing light snowfall, while the temperatures in the MalamJabba and Kalam parts of Swat have dropped even more as a result of last night’s snowfall.

Urban areas of Upper Dir experienced light rain for several hours.

Snow continues to fall in the district’supper areas, such as Oshirai Dara, Kumrat, Lowari Tunnel, Dog Dara Top, and Jaaz Banda. Due to sporadic snowfall, the temperature fell below zero in Kaghan, Naran, and Babusar peak. Additional input by Agencies
