Islamabad: On the occasion of World Tourism Day, Director General of the Galiyat Development Authority (GDA), Shahrukh Ali, highlighted the significant influx of tourists to Galiyat Valley, marking a new milestone with over 1 million eco-tourists this year.

In an interview with a private news channel, Shahrukh emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable tourism practices that safeguard the region’s natural environment and cultural heritage.

“We are committed to sustainable tourism practices that not only drive economic growth but also protect our region’s unique environment and cultural identity,” Shahrukh stated.

He further noted that Galiyat Valley is positioning itself as a leading sustainable tourism destination, showcasing Pakistan’s natural beauty while adhering to environmental conservation principles.

World Tourism Day, celebrated on September 27, aims to raise awareness of the social, cultural, political, and economic impacts of tourism.

This year’s theme, “Tourism and Peace,” highlights tourism’s role in fostering global understanding, cultural exchange, and international peace, Shahrukh explained.

To enhance the visitor experience, the Galiyat Tourism Authority is introducing eco-friendly initiatives, including the development of state-of-the-art car parking facilities.

Over 50 hotels and guesthouses in the region have been registered to ensure high-quality services and accommodations for tourists. This registration drive is part of the authority’s efforts to standardize services, boost the local economy, and ensure transparency in tourism operations.

Shahrukh underscored that the focus on sustainable tourism not only preserves the region’s natural beauty but also offers a unique experience to visitors. These initiatives align with the global theme of promoting responsible tourism practices, which support economic growth, cultural exchange, and environmental protection.

The GDA’s efforts are expected to further boost tourism in Galiyat Valley, supporting local businesses and creating job opportunities in the region, Shahrukh assured.
