Funeral In Absentia For Turkish, Syrian Victims Today

Islamabad: The funeral prayers in absentia for the people of Turkiye and Syria who lost their lives in the recent devastating earthquake will be offered at Faisal Mosque on Friday.

The decision has been taken by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration.

The funeral would be held after the Friday prayer gathering at 1:30 pm which will be attended by the prominent dignitaries of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, members of civil society, a senior official of Islamabad administration, and the public at large.

It is to be mentioned here that at least 15,000 people are dead in the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkiye and neighbouring Syria on Monday, toppling thousands of buildings, including many apartment blocks, wrecking hospitals, and leaving thousands of people injured or homeless.

An official 51-member Pakistani rescue team has already landed in Istanbul to handle rescue activities.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memonre viewed the up-gradation work of the weekly market, H-9 (Itwar Bazar), on Thursday and directed the officials to ensure security arrangements.

During the visit to Itwar Bazar along with Municipal Administration Directorate (DMA) Director, the market committee and other stakeholders; the deputy commissioner directed the officials to maintain cleanliness, check the lighting arrangements for the citizens and expedite the renovation.

He directed his staff to keep an eye on rate lists and prices of commodities for providing relief to the citizens.

Memon also directed the market committee to act against the trespassers and remove encroachments by the stall holders in the market that are causing congestion.
