From Viral Video to Arrest: ICT Police Bust Criminal Gang
News Desk
Islamabad: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police have apprehended key suspects in two significant criminal cases: a mobile shop robbery and the murder of an elderly man in Bhara Kahu.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations/Investigation, Muhammad Arsalan Shahzaib, provided details on the breakthrough at a press conference held at the Rescue-15 office on Sunday.
In the first case, SSP Shahzaib revealed that four armed suspects robbed a mobile shop within the Secretariat Police Station’s jurisdiction.
Shortly after, in a separate incident, an elderly man was found murdered with his throat slit in Bhara Kahu.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, took swift notice of both incidents, directing Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Ali Raza and SSP Shahzaib to assemble special teams to investigate.
Through modern techniques, including digital tracking and surveillance, police identified and arrested four suspects involved in the mobile shop robbery within 48 hours.
The accused—Faisal, Shabbir, Ghulam Abbas, and Muhammad Faraz—were found in possession of several firearms, including a Kalashnikov rifle, a 55 bore rifle, an M-16 style pistol, and two 30 bore pistols, along with the motorcycles used in the crime. Stolen money was also recovered.
SSP Shahzaib credited a bystander’s viral video as crucial in identifying the suspects, who were residents of Jhang and were linked to similar robberies in Faisalabad.
In the second case, on November 3, police found the body of Abdul Qayyum, an elderly man, in Bhara Kahu.
Suspects Amanullah (23) and Riyasat Abbasi were arrested in connection with the murder. According to SSP Shahzaib, the suspects confessed, revealing that they had observed Qayyum and learned of his savings before committing the murder in an attempt to rob him.
SSP Shahzaib emphasized the ICT Police’s commitment to citizen safety and noted the ongoing decline in crime rates across Islamabad.
He urged landlords to register tenant information with local police and announced an upcoming crackdown on unregistered tenants to enhance community security.
