From Karachi to Kashmir: Where Will the Next Rainfall Hit?
News Desk
Karachi: Residents of the port city have been experiencing overcast skies over the past few days, and the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday forecast light drizzle in some parts of the city during morning and nighttime hours.
According to the Met Office, Karachi is expected to remain partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging between 33°C and 35°C. A sea breeze blowing at 10 km/h, combined with high humidity levels reaching up to 82%, will maintain humid conditions. The minimum temperature recorded in the last 24 hours was 28°C.
The PMD has advised citizens to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas, as light showers have intermittently occurred in recent days.
Meanwhile, the broader monsoon system continues to impact various parts of the country. Since June 26, heavy rainfall and related incidents have claimed 72 lives and injured 130 others nationwide. The highest number of casualties was reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (28), followed by Punjab (22), Sindh (15), Balochistan (7), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (4). Over 160 houses were damaged and 91 livestock lost during this period.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert through its National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC), warning of possible river overflows and flash floods across Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, KP, AJK, and Gilgit-Baltistan till July 10.
The Met Office further forecast widespread rain, wind, and thundershowers from the night of July 6 to July 8 across much of the country. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may cause flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides, particularly in hilly regions and flood-prone urban centers.
Urban flooding risks are high in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar. Additionally, landslides and mudslides could affect road networks in Murree, Galliyat, KP, and Kashmir.
In Sindh, while most districts will remain hot and humid, rain with wind and thunderstorms is expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Thatta, Mithi, Sanghar, Dadu, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Kashmore, Shikarpur, and adjoining areas.
Citizens are advised to stay updated with official weather alerts and take necessary precautions, particularly in vulnerable areas.
