From Churches to Streets, Twin Cities Police on Watch
News Desk
Islamabad/Rawalpindi: From nabbing housemaids behind high-profile robberies to tightening the security cordon around churches and arresting violent offenders, police in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have stepped up their vigilance to maintain law and order amid rising public safety concerns.
Female Robbery Gang Busted
In Rawalpindi, police arrested two women housemaids allegedly involved in a series of thefts in the Saddar Barooni area, bringing an end to a months-long investigation that had puzzled residents and officers alike.
According to police, the suspects would secure employment as domestic workers and then steal valuables within days of joining duty. The gang had already been linked to a major theft case registered five months earlier.
Law enforcement officials recovered Rs 750,000 in cash, which the suspects had obtained after selling stolen gold jewellery. Using human intelligence and technical investigation, the Saddar Barooni Police traced and arrested both women, who had gone into hiding after the incident.
SP Saddar Muhammad Nabeel Khokhar praised the police team’s swift action, saying the accused would be presented in court on solid evidence.
“Protecting citizens’ lives and properties is our prime duty,” he emphasized.
I12 Lawbreakers Held, Weapons Seized
Across the capital, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police arrested 12 criminals and recovered drugs and illegal weapons in multiple operations launched to ensure public safety.
According to officials, teams from Tarnol, Humak, and Khanna police stations apprehended six suspects, seizing 415 grams of ice, four pistols, and one gun with ammunition.
Additionally, during a special drive targeting absconders and proclaimed offenders, police arrested six more wanted individuals.
SSP Operations Islamabad reaffirmed the force’s resolve to protect citizens, stating,
“No one will be allowed to disturb the peace of the city. The safety and security of citizens remain our top priority.”
Traffic Police Assaulted, Suspect Nabbed in I-8
In a separate incident, police arrested a suspect who allegedly assaulted Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) officers during a routine check in I-8 Markaz, before attempting to flee the scene.
Officials said the driver of a black Honda Civic, reportedly under the influence, attacked police personnel, tore a sergeant’s uniform, snatched his wireless set, and fired gunshots while escaping, creating panic among the public.
Following directives from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, CIA teams and Industrial Area Police traced and arrested the suspect within hours, seizing the vehicle used in the crime.
A case under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and Anti-Terrorism Act has been registered.
Chief Traffic Officer Capt. (R) Hamzah Humayun commended the rapid response of law enforcement teams.
“Islamabad Police will not tolerate any attempt to harm officers on duty. Respect for law is mandatory — no one is above the law,” he stated.
Local residents, including government employee Tahir Azad, appreciated the quick action, saying it helped restore public confidence in the police.
Church Security Tightened Across the Capital
Meanwhile, the ICT Police maintained heightened security at all churches during Sunday services to ensure the safety of the Christian community.
An official said that police personnel, including female officers, were deployed outside churches, with enhanced checking through walk-through gates, metal detectors, and Safe City CCTV monitoring.
Senior officers inspected arrangements and issued on-ground instructions, reaffirming that the protection of minority communities remains a top priority.
“We are fully prepared to respond swiftly to any untoward situation,” the official said.
Growing Coordination Across Twin Cities
The recent operations underscore the close coordination between Rawalpindi and Islamabad police, as both departments intensify their campaigns against crime and smog-related violations.
With a series of swift arrests, increased surveillance, and public reassurance efforts, law enforcement authorities aim to restore public trust and strengthen safety mechanisms in the country’s most populous urban corridor.
