Islamabad: Renowned infectious disease expert Dr Faisal Mehmood has sounded the alarm over a fresh surge in COVID-19 cases across the country, urging the public to exercise caution and adhere to basic preventive measures.
Speaking to a private news channel on Thursday, Dr Faisal noted that while the virus is currently presenting with mild symptoms, it is spreading at a concerning pace. He emphasized that symptoms commonly reported by patients include fever, cough, cold, body aches, and in some instances, difficulty in breathing.
“COVID-19 is now generally perceived as a mild viral infection, but that does not mean we should let our guard down,” he cautioned. “Simple precautions like wearing masks in crowded places and frequent handwashing can go a long way in preventing its spread.”

He shared alarming figures from healthcare facilities, stating that Dow Hospital is currently reporting 8 to 10 suspected COVID-19 patients daily, while emergency departments at Jinnah Hospital and Civil Hospital are attending to over 50 patients per day presenting with respiratory symptoms.
