Kathmandu: Four earthquakes rocked Bajhang district in far-western Nepal on Tuesday, injuring 17 people, one going missing and one women killed, damaging homes and triggering a landslide that blocked a major highway, informed local official.

The first tremor measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck at 14:40 local time in the Telkot area, followed by another measuring 6.3 in the Chainpur area.

Two other quakes measuring 5 were also recorded in the district, said District Administration Official Nanda Bahadur Dhami.

Nanda Bahadur stated that at least 32 houses have been destroyed, fully or partially.

A landslide triggered by the earthquake has obstructed the road connecting the district, he added.

Local people were afraid of entering their houses, mentioned Nanda, noting that tents were erected for those who either lost their houses or dared not stay at home.

Different teams of Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force have been deployed for the rescue operations, said Dhami, adding that we’re still collecting details of the losses.
