Four Dead, Seven Missing as Heavy Rains Lash Indian Gujarat
News Desk
New Delhi: At least four people have been killed, and seven others are missing following severe rain-related incidents in the western Indian state of Gujarat, according to officials on Tuesday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that various parts of Gujarat received significant rainfall from Monday to Tuesday.
“A total of four deaths one each in Morbi and Dahod districts, and two in Gandhinagar district have been reported since Monday,” said State Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey, as quoted by local media.
In a tragic incident in Morbi district on Monday, a tractor-trolley carrying 17 people was allegedly swept away by an overflowing causeway. While 10 passengers managed to escape, seven were swept away and remain missing. Search and rescue operations are currently underway.
The heavy rains have also led to severe waterlogging in low-lying areas of Vadodara, particularly along the Vishwamitri river, disrupting vehicular traffic and forcing residents to wade through knee-deep water.
