Tehran/Tel Aviv: Iran on Saturday launched a fresh wave of ballistic and hypersonic missiles at Israel, killing at least four people and injuring more than 90 others in the most intense phase yet of its ongoing retaliatory campaign against Tel Aviv, Iranian and international media reported.

The missile strikes, part of what Tehran has termed “True Promise 3”, marked the fifth round of Iranian retaliation since Israel’s June 13 airstrike on Iranian soil, which killed senior Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists. Saturday’s barrage targeted multiple Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv and Haifa, causing explosions that prompted widespread panic and forced residents into bomb shelters.

Iran’s Mehr News Agency, citing Israeli media, reported that a 50-storey building in Tel Aviv sustained heavy structural damage. Iranian officials said dozens of missiles and drones bypassed Israeli air defence systems—including the Iron Dome and David’s Sling—and hit strategic infrastructure.

Israel’s emergency medical services confirmed that four people, including a woman, were killed in the strikes. Over 90 others were injured, with at least seven suffering minor wounds in Tel Aviv alone. Police officials said several buildings and public facilities sustained significant damage. Authorities imposed a ban on the filming or sharing of footage from impacted areas.

In a separate and unverified claim, Iran’s Tasnim News Agency stated that two Israeli fighter jets were shot down and a female pilot had been captured by Iranian forces. The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) declined to comment on the allegation, and international media have not independently verified the report.

The missile attack began late Thursday and continued into Friday morning, intensifying fears of a broader regional conflict. Warning sirens were activated across northern parts of what Iran calls “occupied Palestine,” and videos circulating online showed smoke rising from various impact sites.

The strikes follow Israel’s coordinated assault earlier this week on Iranian nuclear and military facilities, an operation Iran described as “the largest attack on its soil in recent memory.” Among the dead were top Iranian commanders—Major General Mohammad Baqeri, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, and Major General Hossein Salami, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps—as well as at least six nuclear scientists and 78 civilians.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a televised address, vowed continued retaliation, declaring that Israel had “sealed its bitter and painful fate.”

With tensions rapidly escalating, international observers, including CNN and Reuters, have confirmed that hundreds of projectiles have been exchanged between the two sides over the past few days. Analysts warn the situation could spiral into a regional war if diplomatic efforts are not swiftly initiated.

Despite the gravity of the conflict, the United States and United Nations have yet to issue formal statements on the latest developments. Meanwhile, Israel’s cabinet convened an emergency meeting in Tel Aviv, and public events in major cities have been cancelled.

On the Iranian side, state television aired footage of heightened military activity, with air defence systems deployed and forces on high alert in key provinces.

As both nations remain on war footing, the international community watches with growing alarm, urging restraint to avoid a full-scale confrontation in the Middle East.
