Islamabad’s Security Put on High Alert

Islamabad: Following the suicide blast in Peshawar on Monday afternoon, the police have put security on high alert in the federal capital to avoid any untoward situation.

According to a tweet from the Islamabad police’s official Twitter handle, IG Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan ordered the increase in security. The security at all entry and exit points of the city has been increased, including strict monitoring through the safe city cameras, it added. The police said “snipers” had been deployed to “important points and buildings” to enhance security.

Early on the afternoon, a suicide bomber blew himself up during prayers, leaving at least 28 persons killed and more than 150 injured.

The suicide bomber blew himself up at a mosque in Police Lines.  

Security officials said the bomber was standing in the front row at the time of the explosion. CCPO Mohammad Aijaz said some victims of the blast were still trapped under the rubble, adding that the roof and part of the mosque’s wall collapsed following the explosion. Most of the injured included police officials, hospital sources confirmed, adding that some of the injured are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the hospital management has also issued an appeal for blood donations.
