Foggy Mornings and Cooler Days Ahead in Karachi
News Desk
Karachi: Residents of Karachi are likely to experience a noticeable drop in temperature starting tomorrow (Tuesday), as changing weather conditions affect the city, Sindh Chief Meteorologist Ameer Haider said while talking a local news channel on Monday.
Speaking about the prevailing conditions, Haider noted that dense fog covered various parts of the city on Sunday morning. He explained that a recent monsoon spell across the country increased moisture levels in the air, which, combined with very low wind speeds, caused fog formation close to the ground.
“Fog was a common sight in Karachi today due to excess moisture settling near the surface. On March 1, 2023, similar conditions had reduced visibility in the city to zero,” he recalled. However, Haider assured that no fog is expected in Karachi over the next 10 days.
On temperatures, Haider said the city recorded a low of 14°C on Monday, while tomorrow it is expected to range between 12°C and 14°C. The temperature is likely to remain within this range until December 31, offering a pleasant winter spell. He added that Karachi is expected to remain dry, with no rain forecasted over the next 10 days.
Haider also mentioned that a weather system entered the country on Sunday (December 21), bringing snowfall to mountainous areas, while residents of Karachi enjoyed the short-lived winter change in the metropolis. Visibility was significantly reduced in some areas, with the M-9 Motorway seeing near-zero visibility during the fog.
Looking ahead, Haider said that while the last week of December will remain mild and pleasant, the first two weeks of January are expected to be colder, giving residents a taste of winter in the coastal city.
