Floods Wreak Havoc in Skardu Due to Melting Glaciers

News Desk

Skardu: The melting of glaciers has caused severe flooding in Skardu, resulting in the destruction of more than two dozen houses and crops on hundreds of kanals of land.

The flood channel has affected several villages near Birgi Nala, damaging water supply and irrigation channels.

Local residents have urged authorities to take immediate precautionary measures to save the area from further devastation. They are calling on the government to prevent floodwaters from entering settlements and agricultural areas.

One flood survivor stated, “Not only was my house destroyed, but my cultivated land, crops, and trees were washed away. Now I have nothing left to earn my livelihood.”

Deputy Commissioner of Skardu, Sami Khan, commented on the situation, noting that illegal encroachments on the canal had blocked the water channel.

He assured that action would be taken against those responsible for the encroachments and the demolition of illegal buildings.
