Flooding, Fallen Trees in Capital as Rainstorm Sweeps Through
News Desk
Islamabad: Heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds lashed the federal capital on Saturday, causing water accumulation in low-lying areas and uprooting trees at several locations. The district administration responded promptly to manage the situation and minimize public inconvenience.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, directed all assistant commissioners to remain on the ground and monitor affected areas closely. Magistrates were tasked with maintaining vigilance in vulnerable zones, particularly under-construction buildings and open drainage systems, to avert potential hazards.
In a coordinated operation, the Islamabad Traffic Police worked alongside district teams to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent congestion on major arteries. Fallen trees and debris were swiftly removed to reopen blocked roads.
Following the DC’s instructions, Additional Deputy Commissioner General visited multiple areas for on-site inspections. Assistant Commissioner City and other officials also remained active, checking sites where rainwater had accumulated.
Sanitation teams and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) launched drainage operations, clearing blocked passages to facilitate water flow. Officials confirmed that all fallen trees were cleared from the main roads.
“District and municipal teams are on the ground to respond to public concerns. All trees brought down by strong winds have been removed from major roads,” DC Irfan Memon stated. He also urged residents to report any emergency situations promptly and cooperate with the authorities.
The district control room remained operational throughout the day, coordinating field teams and sharing real-time updates with relevant departments. Traffic police officers were deployed at key intersections to manage vehicle flow and mitigate the impact of road blockages during peak hours.
Equipped with water pumps and other machinery, administration teams continued efforts to drain stagnant water from residential and commercial areas, particularly in sectors prone to flooding.
In an advisory to the public, the Deputy Commissioner requested citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during inclement weather and stay connected with emergency services. The district administration has shared helpline numbers for quick assistance.
