FJWU Shines at PiNTECH Expo 2025, Wins Top Honor

Lahore: Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) Rawalpindi has emerged as a top performer at the prestigious PiNTECH Expo 2025, organized by the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC).
The university secured the 1st Prize in the Science & Engineering category, making history as the only women’s university to win an award at the event, which saw over 1,100 projects submitted by universities across Punjab.
Seven innovative projects from FJWU were selected for presentation at the expo, spanning a wide range of disciplines. These included three from the Department of Computer Science, one from Electronic Engineering, one from Environmental Sciences, and two business startups, showcasing the university’s diverse and vibrant research ecosystem.
The winning project, titled “Speech Enabled Machine Translation System for Pakistani Languages,” was led by Dr Sadaf Abdul Rauf, Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science, alongside her talented students Sheema Firdous, Shahzadi Ambreen, Ms. Humaira Mehmood, and Fatima Mumtaz. The project was awarded a cash prize of Rs 500,000 for its innovative approach to bridging linguistic gaps in Pakistan through speech and language technologies.
This victory reflects FJWU’s commitment to promoting impactful research, empowering women in science and technology, and fostering entrepreneurial thinking among students. The university’s participation in various categories underscored its interdisciplinary strength and innovation-driven academic environment.
Vice Chancellor Dr Bushra Mirza (Pride of Performance, T.I.) congratulated the winning team and all participating students, stating, “This achievement reflects FJWU’s dedication to excellence, innovation, and the development of research that contributes meaningfully to society. Our students are creating real-world solutions that will shape the future of Pakistan.”
Dr. Sadaf Abdul Rauf, along with VC Dr Bushra Mirza and the student team, received the 1st Prize on stage at the PiNTECH Expo 2025.
