Quetta: The district administration in Chaghi has suspended five teachers for absenteeism, implemented salary cuts for several others, and reopened 32 out of 95 previously closed schools as part of ongoing efforts to revitalize the region’s education system.
A meeting of the District Education Group, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Chaghi Ata-ul-Munim, reviewed the district’s educational situation. Participants included District Education Officer Ashok Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Dalbandin Abdul Basit Buzdar, Finance Officer Jehanzaib, and other officials.
During the meeting, it was reported that significant progress had been made in reopening closed schools due to the coordinated efforts of the Deputy Commissioner and District Education Group members. Teaching activities have resumed in 32 schools as of December.
The DC instructed field officers to intensify monitoring, immediately suspend absent teachers, and withhold their salaries. “There is no room for absenteeism in this process,” he emphasized, highlighting the provincial government’s commitment to improving education across Balochistan.
The meeting approved measures for the activation of additional closed schools and emphasized engaging tribal elders and parents to support these initiatives by identifying absent teachers.
The DC also noted that local teachers are being recruited on a merit-based contract system to address staff shortages, ensuring that educational institutions remain functional. “Ensuring merit is crucial to improving education and providing quality learning opportunities for every child,” he added.
The progress of decisions made by the District Education Group will be continuously reviewed, and proposed measures implemented effectively to enhance literacy rates and ensure access to education for future generations.
