Five People Rescued After Falling Into Drain in Karachi
News Desk
Karachi: At least five people, including women and children, fell into an open drain in Karachi’s Korangi district on Saturday, rescue officials reported.
The incident occurred in Mehran Town as the group was returning from an event and accidentally slipped into the uncovered drain. Emergency teams rushed to the scene and successfully rescued all five individuals.
Three of the victims were found unconscious and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Open manholes and drains have posed a recurring hazard in Karachi, claiming the lives of over two dozen people, mostly children, last year. In a similar case last month, the body of a three-year-old boy was recovered 14 hours after he fell into an uncovered manhole near the Nipa Flyover in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has repeatedly emphasized that the issue of open manholes should not be politicized. “If someone has removed a gutter’s cover and placed it on the side, this issue should not be viewed through a political lens,” he said.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns over public safety and the urgent need for preventive measures to cover drains and manholes across the city.
