Fitness Jitters: Pandya in Doubt, Abhishek Ready for Pakistan

News Desk

Islamabad: India’s preparations for the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan face uncertainty as all-rounder Hardik Pandya and opener Abhishek Sharma battle fitness concerns.

Bowling coach Morne Morkel confirmed after India’s Super Over triumph against Sri Lanka that both players suffered cramps during the match. While Abhishek has recovered, Pandya’s hamstring issue will be reassessed on Saturday before the title clash.

Pandya dismissed Kusal Mendis for a golden duck but left the field clutching his left hamstring after just one over and did not return. Abhishek, meanwhile, exited in the 10th over after experiencing thigh discomfort, receiving treatment with ice and fluids.

“All of them were cramps during the game. Hardik will be assessed again tonight and tomorrow morning. Abhishek is fine,” Morkel told reporters.

In a bid to ensure full recovery, the Indian camp has cancelled Saturday’s training session, with players focusing instead on rest, recovery baths, and massages.

“The key for the boys is to rest. Recovery started straight after the match. The best way is to sleep and stay off the feet,” Morkel added.

India will meet Pakistan in the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2025 final on Sunday.
