Peshawar: The first case of polio virus infection in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for 2024 has been reported. A nine-month-old baby girl from Mohmand district has contracted the crippling disease.
In a statement issued late Friday night, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed serious concern over the polio infection and ordered an inquiry to identify officials responsible for negligence and laxity in the vaccination efforts.
He directed the suspension of the District Health Officer (DHO) and Polio Coordinator of Mohmand district, emphasizing the need for accountability.
The Chief Minister also called for a review of the planning and execution of polio vaccination campaigns in Mohmand, insisting that the quality of vaccination must be improved across all districts to protect children from this debilitating disease.
“Eradication of the polio virus is the top priority of the KP government,” Gandapur stated. He urged teachers, religious scholars, and community leaders to assist the government in achieving this crucial goal.
Additionally, he announced that the government would provide treatment for the polio-infected girl from Mohmand.
