Fire at Karachi Port Largely Brought Under Control
News Desk
Karachi: A major fire that broke out at the Karachi Port was largely brought under control on Friday after authorities intensified firefighting efforts, increasing the number of fire tenders to 20, while rescue personnel and port security teams remained on site.
As the blaze intensified, additional fire engines were deployed to contain the flames. Officials said the operation was being carried out under the direct supervision of the Chairman Karachi Port Trust (KPT), with more than 80 per cent of the fire extinguished.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry took notice of the incident and directed authorities to utilise all available resources to bring the situation under complete control. On his instructions, the KPT chairman and relevant officers were ordered to immediately reach the site.
Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident. Efforts were continuing to douse the remaining flames and prevent further damage to port infrastructure.
The KPT chairman has also sought a detailed report from the port team to determine the cause of the fire and assess losses, officials added.
