Fines Issued, Yet Illegal Hunting Continues in Attock

Attock: In a concerted effort to protect biodiversity and curb wildlife crimes, the Punjab Wildlife Department conducted targeted operations against illegal hunting and unlawful bird trade across multiple tehsils in Attock district, recovering fines totaling Rs 205,000.
Officials said the crackdown involved enforcement actions in Jand, Hazro, Fateh Jang, and Pindi Gheb tehsils, targeting individuals keeping birds unlawfully or setting up illegal hunting nets.
Several birds, including partridges, quails, and a peacock, were rescued and released back into their natural habitats.
In Jand Tehsil, one violator was fined Rs 50,000 for keeping six partridges, while another received a Rs 35,000 penalty for possessing a peacock.

Hazro and Pindi Gheb tehsils saw offenders fined Rs 30,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively for setting up illegal hunting nets, which were immediately confiscated and destroyed. In Fateh Jang, a black partridge was recovered, and the keeper was fined Rs 20,000.
Wildlife officials emphasized that such operations will continue regularly, signaling a strict stance against poaching and illegal trade.
“We are committed to safeguarding wildlife and ensuring that offenders face legal consequences,” an official said, underlining the department’s efforts to preserve Pakistan’s natural heritage.
Environmentalists welcomed the actions, saying enforcement against illegal hunting and trade is critical for maintaining ecological balance and protecting vulnerable species in the region.
This crackdown highlights the growing vigilance of Pakistan’s wildlife authorities in combating illegal wildlife exploitation while promoting conservation awareness among local communities.
