Financial Woes Grip 21 Govt Institutions in WASA Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi: In a concerning development, 21 institutions from both the Punjab and federal government sectors in WASA Rawalpindi find themselves mired in financial difficulties, collectively owing millions of rupees.
According to reliable sources within WASA, the defaulting government departments have amassed a staggering debt exceeding 82.15 million rupees.
The education department shoulders a significant portion of this burden, with its outstanding debt surpassing 1 crore 34 lakh 8 thousand rupees.
Similarly, the Parks and Horticulture department’s dues stand at over 1 crore 93 lakh rupees. The Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) finds itself in arrears of more than Rs 3.28 crore, while the police, building department, and sports board collectively owe Rs 71 lakh.
The Health Department, Metro Bus Service, and Punjab Cooperative Department each face defaulting amounts exceeding 1 crore rupees.
Furthermore, the Housing Department, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) have amassed unpaid balances exceeding 36.5 million rupees.
Adding to the list of defaulters are the District Election Commission, Forest Department, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), and Income Tax Department.
Notices have been duly issued by WASA Rawalpindi to all defaulting departments, urging them to settle their outstanding dues promptly.
The gravity of this financial crisis underscores the urgent need for remedial action to ensure the smooth functioning of essential services provided by these institutions.
Failure to address these mounting debts could have detrimental consequences for both the institutions involved and the public they serve.
