Texas: In a fatal collision on a Texas highway, Laura Lynch, a founding member of the renowned music group Dixie Chicks, tragically lost her life on Sunday. Laura Lynch was 65 years old.

The incident occurred as Lynch was traveling eastbound on US 62 when another vehicle, attempting to pass on a two-way undivided section of the highway, collided with her car, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The crash happened on Friday around 5:45 p.m. local time.

The band, now known as The Chicks since 2020, expressed profound shock and sorrow at her passing.

In a statement, they recalled fond memories of their time together, emphasizing Lynch’s vibrant spirit, infectious energy, and her significant contributions to the band’s early success. They highlighted her design prowess, love for Texas, and pivotal role in elevating the band from street performances to stages across Texas and the mid-West.

Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene, with authorities noting she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. The other vehicle caught fire, and its driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, receiving medical attention at the hospital.

A co-founder of the group alongside Robin Lynn Macy, Martie Erwin, and Emily Erwin in 1989, Lynch initially played upright bass and later transitioned to singing.

She recorded three albums with the band before departing, with Natalie Maines eventually stepping in as her replacement.
