Faryal To Play Lead In A Movie Inspired By Slain Qandeel Baloch

Islamabad: Faryal Mehmood, a Pakistani actress, is unquestionably a formidable force, and her entrance into television has shown that she is a performer at heart. The ‘Raqeeb Se’ actress will appear in the next movie ‘Wakhri’ (One of a Kind).
The secret was out when the Pakistani-American director Iram Parveen Bilal revealed that the shoot in Pakistan was over, for ‘Wakhri’.
Wakhri, which stars Faryal Mehmood and Gulshan Majeed as well as well-known social media influencers, is centred on patriarchal social media bullying of Pakistani “misfits”. The movie pays respect to Qandeel Baloch and draws inspiration from her.
Iram’s Wakhri follows a Pakistani teacher who unintentionally unleashes the power of social media and blatantly challenges patriarchy. She struggles to hide her online identity but is progressively exposed to society’s dark side and is left dealing with the fallout.
She refers to her film as a “grounded masala” and claims it will have thought-provoking content as well as loud club music in Punjabi and Urdu and rap songs for dancing and chanting.
Iram hired the top talent in the Pakistani industry for everything from directing and producing to acting and music. It includes the voices of a number of locall vocalists, including Meesha Shafi, Eva B, producer Abdullah Siddiqui, and others.
The Alliance of Women Directors chose Iram as one of the directors to watch in 2020. Her last film,‘I’ll Meet You There’, was outlawed in Pakistan but featured in the Grand Jury competition at SXSW in 2020.
