Fans Brave Cold to See PSL Trophy, Meet Pakistan Crickets

New York: Despite freezing temperatures and the season’s first snowfall, a large number of cricket fans gathered at New York’s iconic Times Square on Sunday evening to see the Pakistan Super League (PSL) trophy and meet Pakistani cricket stars.

Earlier in the day, snowfall across the New York region disrupted road traffic and created hazardous conditions for pedestrians. City authorities deployed dozens of snowploughs to clear roads and restore traffic flow.

The Times Square event was part of a global outreach strategy by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) aimed at expanding the PSL’s international profile, attracting foreign investors, and engaging cricket fans in the United States.

Several members of the Pakistan national cricket team attended the event, giving fans a rare opportunity to interact with their favourite players. Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was also present.

Players in attendance included Salman Ali Agha, Pakistan’s T20I captain, along with Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Saim Ayub, Shan Masood, and Saud Shakeel. Renowned singer Ali Zafar, associated with previous PSL anthems, also joined the gathering.

The fan engagement followed an exclusive PSL roadshow for investors and members of the Pakistani community held in New York a day earlier. The roadshow— the first of its kind in New York City— came after a similar event in London last week.

Wrapped in winter clothing, the Pakistani cricketers arrived at the famed square aboard a bus decorated with the national flag. Fans warmly welcomed them with cheers, chants of “Pakistan Zindabad,” and waving green-and-white flags. Players signed autographs and posed for selfies as the PSL trophy was proudly displayed.

Speaking on the occasion, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said, “I thank Allah that the PSL is today shining at the international level.”
