Famila Injection Batch 083 Banned in Pakistan

Islamabad: The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has announced a complete ban on the sale and purchase of Famila Injection Batch 083, a drug commonly used for abortion. The ban, following a “Recall Alert” issued by the authority.
Manufactured by Zafa Pharmaceutical Company in Karachi, the Famila 150mg Injection was found to be substandard after samples were collected by a Federal Inspector of Drugs in Karachi and sent for testing.
The Central Drugs Laboratory in Karachi confirmed that Batch No. 083 of the injection, produced by M/s Zafa Pharmaceutical Laboratories (Pvt.) Ltd, did not meet quality standards.
In response, DRAP has instructed the National Regulatory Field Force to increase market surveillance and ordered Zafa Pharmaceutical Company to halt the distribution of the affected batch.
All pharmacies have been directed to immediately suspend sales of Famila Injection Batch 083 and return the stock to the manufacturer.
The DRAP has also advised doctors and patients to cease using Famila Injection Batch 083 until further notice.
