Faisalabad Welcomes Int’l Cricket After 17 Years

Faisalabad: Pakistan are all set to take on South Africa on Tuesday in the opening match of the three-match One Day International (ODI) series, marking the return of international cricket to Faisalabad after 17 years.
All three ODIs will be staged at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, from November 4 to 8. The venue last hosted an international match on April 11, 2008, when Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets in an ODI.
The series will also mark the first assignment for Shaheen Shah Afridi as Pakistan’s new ODI captain, succeeding Mohammad Rizwan.

“It is exciting to see international cricket return to Faisalabad after 17 years,” Shaheen said ahead of the match. “We are looking forward to performing well against South Africa. The team played good cricket in the T20I series, and we aim to carry that momentum into the ODIs.”
Earlier, Pakistan, led by Agha Salman, clinched the T20I series 2-1 against the visitors in Lahore.
The Pakistan ODI squad for the series includes:
Shaheen Shah Afridi (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Faisal Akram, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, and Salman Ali Agha.
The ODI series is expected to draw large crowds as cricket fans eagerly welcome the return of top-flight international action to Faisalabad.
