Extreme Heat Grips Nawabshah as Temperature Soars to 47°C

Hyderabad: A severe heatwave has taken hold of Nawabshah and its surrounding areas, with temperatures reaching a blistering 47°C on Friday well above the seasonal average.

According to meteorological officials, the intense heatwave shows no signs of easing, with forecasts predicting that temperatures may rise even further in the coming days, potentially hitting 49°C.

Local authorities have advised residents to remain indoors during peak daylight hours, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and stay well-hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses. Citizens have been urged to take extra care, especially the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing medical conditions.

The district administration, in coordination with health departments, is on high alert and has mobilized resources to address potential heatstroke cases and other related emergencies.

Medical professionals are emphasizing the importance of wearing light clothing, using oral rehydration solutions, and minimizing sun exposure during this extreme weather event.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Regional Met Office Peshawar, has forecast widespread rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms with occasional gaps across upper and central parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from October 2 to 7.

According to the advisory, moist currents from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea are penetrating the region and are expected to intensify between October 4 and 6, while a fresh western disturbance is also likely to approach during this period.

Under these weather systems, heavy rainfall accompanied by windstorms, thunderstorms, and hail is likely in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Kolai Pallas, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, and Mohmand. Scattered to fairly widespread rain is also expected in Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan.

The PMD warned of possible flash flooding in nullahs and streams in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, and Mardan, while landslides may occur in hilly districts including Abbottabad, Battagram, Chitral, Dir, Shangla, Kohistan, Malakand, Mohmand, Orakzai, Kurram, Torghar, and North Waziristan.

The department further cautioned that heavy rain, lightning, and windstorms could damage weak structures such as kacha houses, electricity poles, billboards, and solar panels.
