Expulsion of Sher Afzal Marwat: The Beginning of a Split in PTI?

News Desk

Islamabad: The decision by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to expel Member of National Assembly (MNA) Sher Afzal Marwat from the party could signal the beginning of a formal split and intensifying factionalism within PTI.

Party insiders suggest that Marwat’s expulsion may trigger dissent within PTI’s parliamentary party, potentially leading to a rebellion in Parliament.

#According to sources, this marks the first instance where dissenting voices have openly challenged the party founder, highlighting emerging internal fractures.

While these disagreements are currently being contained, they could escalate into a deeper divide in the future.

Marwat, who has publicly questioned his removal with the slogan, “Why did you expel me now?”, is reportedly in contact with other party leaders and workers.

His influence may grow, particularly if PTI proceeds with its plan to expel additional members—especially those who deviated from the party line on the 26th Amendment. If more lawmakers are ousted, Marwat could gain further support, deepening the rift within the party.

The divide within PTI appears to be ideological. One faction advocates a more conciliatory and pragmatic approach, arguing that confrontation with the establishment and aggressive political rhetoric are harming the party’s long-term prospects.

On the other hand, a hardline group believes PTI’s strength and Imran Khan’s popularity stem from their staunch anti-establishment stance, warning that any deviation from this position could weaken the party’s appeal.

As the situation unfolds, the expulsion of Sher Afzal Marwat may prove to be a pivotal moment, potentially reshaping PTI’s internal power dynamics and future political direction.
