Pallekele: England defeated Sri Lanka by 51 runs in a Super Eight stage clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Sunday.
Batting first, England posted 146 runs in their allotted 20 overs, led by an impressive half-century from Phil Salt, who top-scored with 62 runs.
Jos Buttler and Salt opened the innings, but England suffered early setbacks, with Buttler dismissed for 7 at 16 runs. Other contributions included Harry Brook 14, Sam Curran 11, Will Jacks 21, and Jamie Overton 10, while Liam Dawson added 6.
In response, Sri Lanka struggled to build momentum and were bowled out for 95 runs, handing England a comfortable 51-run victory.
