2,256 Disappearances Cases Pending

Islamabad: As many as 2,256 cases of enforced disappearance are pending with the Commission on Inquiry on Enforced Disappearance (CIED) as of January 31, 2023, according to a fresh report submitted by CIED to the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

The Commission report further stated that at least 37 cases of missing persons were disposed off, 27 missing persons were traced, and 24 others were recovered during the respective period.

The report has also revealed that 91 cases of missing persons were filed in January. In this process, a total of 9,224 cases were filed until January 31, of which 7,031 cases were disposed of during the said month.

The report stated that three persons were in jails due to various cases, 10 cases were settled as not related to missing persons, and 77 cases were related to Balochistan out of the total cases during January 2023.  The data presented in the report was from March 2011 to January 2023.
