San Francisco: Elon Musk is spearheading an investment group offering $97.4 billion to acquire the nonprofit entity that controls OpenAI, in what appears to be another escalation in his rivalry with the ChatGPT-maker, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

According to the report, Musk’s attorney, Marc Toberoff, submitted the bid to OpenAI’s board of directors.

In response, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman seemingly dismissed the offer with a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying:

“No thank you, but we will buy Twitter for $9.74 billion if you want.

Musk, who acquired X for $44 billion in 2022, responded curtly with a single word: “Swindler.”

Musk’s attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
