Elevate Your Snack Game with Homemade Bun Kabab

Islamabad: Bun Kabab is a delicious street food snack featuring a spiced kabab patty, tangy chutney, and fresh vegetables, all nestled in a soft bun.

Whether you’re craving Pakistani street food or seeking a tasty alternative to a burger, this Bun Kabab recipe is sure to satisfy your taste buds.

Ingredients for Kabab:

  • 5-6 cups water (for boiling)
  • 2 cups daal chana (split chickpeas, soaked)
  • 4-5 whole red chilies
  • 3-4 garlic cloves
  • 2 cups boiled potatoes
  • 1 ½ tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 2-3 green chilies (chopped)

Ingredients for Imli Chutney:

  • 1 cup tamarind pulp
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Ingredients for Green Chutney:

  • 1 cup green coriander
  • ½ cup mint leaves
  • 2 green chilies
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ cup imli chutney

Ingredients for Assembling:

  • Oil (for frying, as required)
  • 2 beaten eggs (for 1 burger)
  • Cabbage (julienne, as required)
  • Imli chutney (as required)
  • Green chutney (as required)
  • Buns (as required)

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Kabab Mixture:
    • In a pot, heat water and add daal chana, garlic, and whole red chilies. Boil until the daal is fully cooked.
    • Remove the red chilies and garlic cloves. Cook the daal until the water evaporates.
    • Transfer the daal to a bowl and add the boiled potatoes. Mash them well.
    • Add red chili powder, garam masala powder, salt, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and chopped green chilies. Mix thoroughly.
    • Shape the mixture into kabab patties and set aside.
  2. Make the Imli Chutney:
    • In a pan, heat tamarind pulp, sugar, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes, then set aside to cool at room temperature.
  3. Prepare the Green Chutney:
    • In a blender, combine green coriander, mint leaves, green chilies, salt, chaat masala, sugar, and imli chutney. Blend until smooth and set aside.
  4. Fry the Kababs:
    • On a tawa, heat oil. Dip each kabab in beaten eggs and fry on the preheated tawa for 2-3 minutes on each side. Set the fried kababs aside on the edges of the tawa.
  5. Toast the Buns:
    • Toast the burger buns on the tawa for about a minute, then set aside.
  6. Prepare the Omelet:
    • Add the remaining beaten eggs to the tawa and cook to make an omelet, flipping each side for 1-2 minutes. Set aside.
  7. Assemble the Bun Kabab:
    • Take a bun and spread imli chutney on the bottom half. Place a fried kabab, followed by a layer of cabbage, the prepared omelet, and sliced onions. Top with green chutney.
    • Cover with the top half of the bun.

Your Bun Kabab is now ready to be enjoyed.
