Islamabad: The final date for Eid-ul-Adha will be officially announced on May 27, following a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convened to sight the moon of Zul-Hijjah, the Ministry of Religious Affairs confirmed on Tuesday.
The meeting will be held in Islamabad and chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. Simultaneous meetings of zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also take place at their respective provincial headquarters across the country.
According to the ministry, if the moon is sighted on May 27, Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on Thursday, June 6. However, if the crescent remains unseen that evening, Eid will fall on Friday, June 7.
An astronomer, however, has predicted that the moon is more likely to be sighted on May 28, suggesting that Eid-ul-Adha may be observed on June 7.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant religious holidays in the Islamic calendar. It marks the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage and commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.
