Islamabad: The Shawwal moon was not sighted in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Bangladesh on Saturday, confirming that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Monday, March 31, in these countries.
In Malaysia, religious authorities made the announcement following rigorous moon sighting efforts at designated locations across the country. The absence of the crescent moon means that Ramadan will be completed in 30 days, with Eid festivities commencing on Monday.
Similarly, Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs confirmed that no moon was sighted, aligning its Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations with Malaysia. Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, will mark the occasion with traditional prayers, family gatherings, and festive meals.
Bangladesh also officially declared March 31 as the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr, reinforcing the alignment of these countries in following the moon sighting methodology.
Meanwhile, countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and others are expected to confirm their moon sighting reports soon, determining whether they will celebrate Eid on Sunday or Monday.
Eid-ul-Fitr signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. The festival is celebrated with special prayers, charitable acts, and communal gatherings.
Authorities in all three countries have urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and adhere to local guidelines for public events and gatherings.
