While there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage, the tremors caused considerable anxiety, prompting residents to evacuate buildings. Many took to social media to share their experiences and express concern.

The latest quake followed another earthquake just a day earlier, when a 5.4 magnitude tremor shook several cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and parts of Punjab, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

That quake struck late Friday night and was recorded at a depth of 102 kilometers, with its epicenter in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan, according to Pakistan’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported the same quake at a depth of 124 kilometers, located 121 kilometers east of Baghlan, Afghanistan.

Tremors from Friday night’s quake were felt in various areas across Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Lahore, Murree, Sargodha, Wah Cantt, and Kasur. In KP, the quake was experienced in Peshawar, Swat, Nowshera, Dir, Shangla, Charsadda, Malakand, Mardan, Haripur, Hangu, and Balakot.

The shocks also reached Ghizer and several districts in Gilgit-Baltistan. Beyond Pakistan’s borders, tremors were reported by residents in India, Indian-administered Kashmir, and Afghanistan, making it a region-wide seismic event.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to follow safety guidelines in case of aftershocks.
