Drastic Changes in Climate Demand Action, Policy Development

Rawalpindi: “There has been a drastic change in the springs today as compared to years ago,” said Dr Roomi S. Hayat , expressing deep concern about the degradation of biodiversity and natural resources.
He underscored the need to initiate change at the individual level and emphasized the necessity for policy development to address climate change.
“One must be very careful of the natural resources they utilize,” he added, highlighting the importance of responsible resource management.
Dr Roomi was speaking at a symposium on “Silent Spring: A Nexus between Urbanization, Climate Change, and Loss of Nature”, organised by the Institute of Rural Management (IRM), in collaboration with the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC) and the Department of Environmental Sciences at Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi.Representing the government’s stance on issues such as urbanization, climate change, and biodiversity loss, Fawad Hayat stated, “The government is actively addressing these issues, and work on various aspects is underway. However, as citizens and individuals, we need to be vigilant and change our practices as well.”He emphasized the need to sustain efforts, stressing that change will eventually manifest.
The symposium provided a critical platform for comprehensive analysis and discourse on the complex interplay between urbanization, climate change, and the alarming loss of natural ecosystems, which significantly impact the essence and vitality of the spring season.Participants gained valuable perspectives through informative discussions, insightful case studies, and interactive sessions.
