Did Ali Abbas Forgive His Father After Years of Distance?

Islamabad: Television actor Ali Abbas has candidly discussed his once-strained relationship with his father, veteran actor Wasim Abbas, following the latter’s second marriage to renowned actress Saba Hameed.

In a recent podcast appearance, Ali opened up about the emotional turmoil he faced as a child during that challenging phase of his life.

“I was just eleven or twelve when my father remarried, and it deeply impacted our bond,” he shared.

Ali Abbas, known for his roles in hit dramas like Ghisi Piti Mohabbat, Be Lagam, Khali Hath, and Fitrat, comes from a celebrated artistic lineage—he is the son of Wasim Abbas and the grandson of legendary folk singer Inayat Hussain Bhatti. Yet, despite his privileged background, Ali revealed that his childhood was fraught with emotional struggles.

Recalling that time, he said, “Being the eldest sibling, I had to take on responsibilities. My mother was battling depression, and my sisters needed me. I had no choice but to remain strong.” He admitted that he felt neglected and feared his father would no longer be there for his first family.

This emotional distance, he said, led to arguments and growing estrangement between father and son. However, as time passed, Ali began to understand the situation differently. “Eventually, I realised that perhaps my father was the one suffering the most,” he reflected.

The breakthrough came when Ali made the decision to approach his father and simply listen. “Someone once told me that when you listen to a person going through depression without judgment, half their burden lifts. That’s what I did.”

This act of empathy helped bridge the gap between them, allowing both to voice their pain and begin healing.

Ali also reflected on the changing dynamics of fatherhood. “Our fathers were traditional alpha males. They believed men shouldn’t cry or express pain. But today, parent-child relationships are more emotionally open,” he noted.

Wasim Abbas, now married to Saba Hameed—who is also the mother of singer Meesha Shafi and rapper Faris Shafi—has had a long and respected career in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. Despite facing accusations of nepotism, Ali Abbas has repeatedly distanced himself from such claims, choosing instead to carve out his own path through hard work and talent.
