Dermatologists Caution Against Viral Beauty Trends

Islamabad: Dermatologists have cautioned against the growing trend of following unverified beauty hacks on social media and consuming fast food for skin and hair care, urging people instead to adopt a nutrient-rich diet for long-term health and vitality.
Speaking to a local news channel, dermatologist Dr. Kashif Ahmad Malik said that popular but unscientific practices circulating online could cause more harm than good.
“Many people turn to social media for beauty advice without understanding the potential risks involved, which can lead to issues like acne, inflammation, and premature aging,” he noted.
Dr. Malik explained that fast food, despite its popularity, is high in unhealthy fats, sugars, and processed ingredients that disrupt the body’s natural balance and damage skin health. “These foods trigger inflammation, increase oil production, and clog pores, resulting in pimples, dullness, and breakouts,” he said.
Instead, he advised people to rely on natural, nutrient-rich foods to improve both skin and overall health. He particularly recommended yogurt and lassi, noting that their probiotic content supports gut health, reduces inflammation, and helps maintain a clear, glowing complexion. Green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, and lemon water were also suggested as part of a balanced diet for skin nourishment.
Highlighting the dangers of unverified beauty tips online, Dr. Malik warned that many such hacks promote products or treatments without scientific backing, leading to skin irritation, allergic reactions, or even long-term damage. “People should be cautious and seek professional advice rather than follow risky online trends,” he stressed.
In conclusion, he urged the public to prioritize wholesome, balanced meals over fad diets and quick fixes. “A holistic approach with fresh vegetables, fruits, and fermented foods not only enhances skin health but also strengthens overall well-being,” he added.
