Multan: Dense fog blanketing Multan on Friday morning caused a delay in the toss ceremony for the first Test match between Pakistan and West Indies at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Scheduled to begin today, the game faced postponements as umpires conducted two inspections but deemed the light insufficient to commence play.

A further inspection is expected shortly.

On Thursday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the playing XI for the opening match of the two-Test series. The squad features emerging opener Muhammad Huraira, set to make his Test debut in place of Saim Ayub, who is sidelined with an ankle injury.

Huraira earned his spot through consistent performances in first-class cricket, including two half-centuries in a recent three-day practice match against West Indies.

The right-handed batter will open alongside captain Shan Masood, with star batter Babar Azam slated at number three.

Pakistan’s middle order includes Kamran Ghulam, vice-captain Saud Shakeel, wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan, and all-rounder Salman Ali Agha.

The team opted for a spin-heavy attack featuring Sajid Khan, Noman Ali, and mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed. Pacer Khurram Shahzad will be the sole fast-bowling option in the lineup.

Pakistan’s Playing XI:

Shan Masood (c), Muhammad Huraira, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, Sajid Khan, Noman Ali, Abrar Ahmed, Khurram Shahzad.

The match promises an exciting contest as the hosts aim to capitalize on their spin strength, with Huraira’s debut adding intrigue to the game.
