DC Islamabad Sentenced to Six Months Imprisonment

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has handed down a six-month prison sentence to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz, in a contempt of court case related to the issuance of an MPO order for the arrest of Shehryar Afridi.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad has been found guilty of contempt of court for issuing an MPO order leading to the arrest of Shehryar Afridi.
Additionally, the IHC has instructed that a copy of the court’s decision be forwarded to the Prime Minister.
The Court has also granted a one-month suspension of the sentence to allow time for an appeal.
In its order, the IHC has stipulated that the DC Islamabad must lodge an appeal within one month. Failure to do so, without a suspension of the decision by the court, will result in imprisonment.
Furthermore, the DC Islamabad has been sentenced to six months in prison and fined Rs100,000 by the High Court.
In related actions, SSP (Operations) Jameel Zafar has been sentenced to four months in prison and fined Rs100,000 , while the SHO of Kohsar Police Station has been given a two-month prison sentence and fined Rs100,000 as well.
