Cyclone Shifts Away from Karachi, Heads Towards Balochistan

News Desk

Islamabad: A severe low-pressure system has intensified in the Bay of Bengal, evolving into a new depression. The Meteorological Department reports that this system is expected to impact India’s Gujarat and Rajasthan regions, with possible effects on eastern Sindh within the next three to four days.

However, it is still too early to predict its precise impact on Sindh’s coastal areas, including Karachi.

Meanwhile, the cyclone in the Arabian Sea is moving away from Karachi. The Meteorological Department’s sixth alert on the cyclone indicates that the storm is shifting towards the Balochistan coast and heading in the direction of Oman. The storm is likely to weaken and dissipate in the sea without making landfall.

During the storm, the sea conditions could become extremely rough, with winds reaching 60 to 70 km/h and gusts potentially hitting 80 km/h. Over the past nine hours, the cyclone has been tracking westward and is now 200 kilometers southwest of Karachi, 220 kilometers south-southeast of Mara, and 380 kilometers east-southeast of Gwadar.

Today, Karachi may experience heavy rain accompanied by intermittent thunder and strong winds, with speeds of 60 to 70 km/h. Rain is also forecasted for other districts in Sindh, including Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, and Tando Muhammad Khan.

The Meteorological Department has advised Balochistan’s fishermen to avoid deep-sea ventures until September 1, as rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms are expected in various districts of Balochistan until then.
