Rawalpindi: As per the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi has established a special Anti-Beggars Squad to end begging in public places and provide a cleaner, safer environment for citizens.
According to CTP spokesman, beggars were found at key locations in the city, including Mall Road, Murree Road, and Old Airport Road.
Their presence not only disrupted the smooth flow of traffic but also posed a security risk.
On the instructions of Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Beenish Fatima, the dedicated squad has started mega operations against begging across the city.
So far,16 beggars including men and women have been booked during the campaign, while 04 underage children found begging were handed over to the Child Protection Bureau for care and rehabilitation.
“The operations are conducting daily so that the social problem of begging can be controlled,,” said CTO Beenish Fatima. “Begging is a social issue that disturbs the public and also leads to the exploitation of children.
Our aim is not just to arrest but to rehabilitate and protect them.” She added.
Special directions have also been issued to traffic officers in all sectors to take part in this ongoing campaign.
Under the “Safe Punjab” initiative led by CM Maryam Nawaz, the CTP aims to ensure a safe, peaceful, and organized traffic system in the city.
The public has been urged to report any cases of begging, especially involving children, to the City Traffic Police or the Child Protection Bureau so that timely action could be taken against the violators.
