Rawalpindi: The City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi on Sunday issued a special traffic advisory for Monday as the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) plans to relocate electric poles along Peshawar Road to facilitate ongoing construction of underpasses.

According to a CTP spokesman, traffic will be diverted to alternate routes between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm while the poles are being shifted along this major city artery. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel on Peshawar Road during these hours and to cooperate with traffic wardens to ensure smooth movement.

The underpass construction is part of the Punjab Government’s initiative to transform Peshawar Road into a signal-free corridor from Ammar Chowk to the Motorway entrance at Chungi No. 26.

In the first phase, underpasses in front of the Pearl Continental Hotel and General Post Office Chowk were completed. The second phase currently includes:

  • Remodelling of Kachehry Chowk, featuring a flyover and an underpass
  • Construction of a flyover in front of Jinnah Park
  • An underpass on Iftikhar Janjua Road

Authorities said the work aims to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow along one of Rawalpindi’s busiest routes, and urged residents to plan their travel accordingly.
