CTD Closes 2024 with 52 Operations, 565 Accounts Blocked

Islamabad: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) wrapped up 2024 with an impressive performance, conducting 52 intelligence-based operations, 141 search and combing operations, and blocking 565 social media accounts promoting extremist content.

An official told APP on Monday that after assuming command, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi introduced several reforms in the CTD, significantly enhancing its performance compared to previous years.

The CTD’s intelligence-based operations resulted in the arrest of 46 suspects and the recovery of substantial materials, including 1,480 grams of explosives, 10 detonators, 10 feet of safety fuse wire, two meters of prima cord, eight grenades, mortar shells, IEDs, one space mine, 2,640 grams of ball bearings, five pistols, and a Kalashnikov with ammunition.

During 141 search and combing operations, the CTD inspected 9,378 houses, checked details of 12,427 individuals, and inspected 4,966 vehicles and motorcycles. Consequently, 201 motorcycles and 17 vehicles were impounded for further legal action.

The operations also led to the recovery of 219 weapons, 1,593 rounds of ammunition, 139 magazines, 3,200 grams of hashish, 3,865 grams of heroin, 710 grams of ice, 3,950 grams of marijuana, and 202 bottles of liquor.

In a bid to curb online extremism, the CTD sent 2,161 social media reports to the PTA and FIA for legal action against accounts promoting linguistic, sectarian, and religious extremist content, resulting in 565 accounts being blocked.

Additionally, the CTD documented more than 12,400 Afghan nationals residing in Islamabad and deported 92 illegal Afghan residents.

IGP Rizvi reaffirmed the ICT Police’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the federal capital.

“The brave officers of Islamabad Police have sacrificed their lives to thwart terrorist activities and ensure the city’s safety,” he stated, emphasizing that the department remains resolute in countering terrorism and dismantling extremist networks.
