Islamabad: Pakistani cricketer Saim Ayub has expressed uncertainty about his availability for the upcoming Champions Trophy, as he awaits a decision from the medical panel regarding his fitness.
The 22-year-old batsman sustained an injury during the first session of a Test match while fielding.
The incident occurred when teammate Aamir Jamal retrieved the ball from the deep third-man region, and Ayub, in a relay effort, lost his balance and stumbled backwards, appearing visibly distressed. He was immediately escorted off the field and given medical attention.
Speaking to the media in London, Ayub said, “I can’t say anything about playing the Champions Trophy yet. I am waiting for the decision of the medical panel. It is entirely up to them.”
Ayub also appealed to fans for their prayers, adding, “Please remember me in your prayers.” Despite the setback, he expressed satisfaction with the steps taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to address his injury, saying he trusts the board’s approach to player welfare.
The PCB has been in regular contact with Ayub’s medical team. “For any further updates on my condition or medical reports, the PCB can be contacted,” he clarified, leaving official communications in the board’s hands.
As for his stay in London, Ayub refrained from sharing further details, stating that his primary focus remains on recovery and adhering to medical advice.
