Sargodha: At least four brick kilns factories were sealed and owners of many others fined in Tehsil Taunsa.

Assistant Commissioner Taunsa, Tariq Shabbir, and Environment Assistant Director, Ishfaq Hussain Shah, led a proactive effort to combat air pollution by inspecting 15 brick kilns on Sunday.

They found seven brick kilns involved in violations of SOPs, four of which are sealed, while cases are registered against the owners of the other three brick kilns over violations of government orders. The owner of one kiln is held and fined Rs 4,00,000 besides seizing the material.

District Headquarters Hospital Sargodha Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Specialist Dr Khalil Rana said that people are suffering from cold, cough, throat and eye diseases because of smog.

Dr Rana advised that it is important to use glasses and masks to ward off smog effects and that people should avoid unnecessary travel.

Masks should be made mandatory for school-going children in the morning to help prevent diseases and citizens must follow the guidelines issued by the health department, suggested ENT Specialist.
