Islamabad: A local court in Islamabad on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants against several government officials for repeatedly failing to appear as prosecution witnesses in the alleged torture case of minor domestic worker Rizwana.

Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan Chishti, while hearing the case, observed that the trial could not proceed due to the continuous absence of key witnesses despite multiple summons.

The court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Women Medical Officer Maryam Fatima of DHQ Hospital Sargodha. Similar warrants were issued for Sub-Inspectors Muhammad Nawaz, Qasim Zia, Ejaz Ahmed, and Muhammad Hanif.

Rescue 1122 Sargodha medical emergency technician Munir Abbas and police official Kanwal, posted at the police service counter of DHQ Sargodha, were also served non-bailable warrants. Arrest warrants were further issued for police officials Shafiq Hussain, Sajjad Hussain, and Shamrez Iqbal.

The magistrate also ordered suspension of salaries of all concerned government employees, stating that their continued absence left the court with no option but to take strict action.

The hearing was adjourned until February 21.
